Helloooo?

I know, I know, I know. Where the hell have I been?

Well, I've been writing a book. And now it's done! In t-minus 33 days, "Julie & Julia" (a slightly lame title, one editorial battle lost there) will hit the bookshelves. It will have my name on the cover, and my picture on the back leaf. I haven't really begun to deal with this yet.

Life has gotten pretty fucking strange. To say the least. And what I've decided I'm going to do is, I'm going to start up this blog, in case there are any Project readers left out there, just to - I don't know. Touch base. I'm going to be visiting places, doing strange-o author type stuff. And it would be sort of cool if I got to see some of the old gang while I'm doing it.

So here it is. Developments shortly to follow....

It's nice to be back.

~ j

PS I STILL haven't figured out all this blog crap yet. Picture, blogroll, etc... to come when I get my head out of my ass....

  3. YAY!!!!!!!! OH YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited I can hardly stand it!!!!!! Turning cartwheels in my seat, in fact. I saw that the planned book tour will take you to SF, and will for sure be making a pilgrimage in that direction as soon as details become known. Hugs coming soon to a book signing near you :-)

But enough of this chit chat -- most importantly, how's Robert??!

If it's any consolation, I was a little irked at the final title when I saw it, it didn't seem like a title you'd choose. I figure some editor or marketing person made that decision, and couldn't care to realize that thousands of (or tens of that number) people have known it only as "The Julie/Julia Project" as it has been since its inception. I'll be adding your book to my bookshelf, next to MtAoFC of course.

  17. The only way I would ever see that film is if Amy Adams cussed her way through it like a sailor so she could be true to the person she's playing.

  33. Oh my God. First of all, when I saw the movie I thought this movie is crap and I found myself opening my internet explorer and typing your name as it's shown at the end of the movie just before the credits section "you still live at queens till this day with your saint... etc" I just took the name and typed it in the google search and here I found your real blog, and the salon one too. Anyways I just wanted to say that I really loved the movie, I've never been so attracted to a biography and drama movie like that and I promise you I'm gonna read all your blog posts but not now actually, I bookmarked it ;). It's gonna take a while I know as I suck in english :) and the funny part is while I was watching your movie on my laptop I had finished eating, at this moment I saw your recipes in the movie, I felt hunger again!

I made it long, at the end I just want to say pardon my english lol and .....You are amazing!

Hi Julia!!! I'm a 13 year old girl, Stephanie, and I ADORE to cook...one of my best friends want to follow in Julia's footsteps and go into Le Cordon Bleu in France, AND she told me that when she's head chef of a five star restaurant, she'll pay for my plane tickets to visit her in Paris...pretty wild right? Well, in class today we had to figure out what we want to do in the future. Me, well, I was blank. I had no clue on what I was going to be...but right there I sat frozen in my seat and recollected my memory of just a couple months before today...When the movie Julie & Julia first came out, I went to see it with my family on the first day and of course, I LOVED IT!! So I thought, why not be a cook? So, I don't know where my future will lead me, but I can assure you that it will be somewhere in the field of cooking!!

Thank you sooo much Julie, you have inspired me so much, and you will always be remembered in my heart...so again, Thanks!!

I found this movie very touching, and without knowing you at all before that, I felt he respected very much your character and that of Julia Child!
For my part, I love cooking, and just this comment will be posted, I'd be at the furnace, probably rather make a good cake that to debone a duck (I think I'm too scared of it...)...But thank you for this lovely story that is yours, for your blog and your sense of humor both refreshing...Now, please excuse me, I have a cat waiting to lick the dish;)

This is the first time I have visited your site and must admit I was driven to find your blog via Wikipedia after I have (shamelessly) watched Julie & Julia too many times to say. ;) I absolutely love, love, love the movie and am curious if your older posts from when the blog started are available to read? I'm new to the blogging thing, so perhaps the answer is easy! Nevertheless, I tried to navigate around the site and it seemed I could only get to 2005.

Hope life is treating you well and ... are you still making Julia Child recipes? :)

  58. G'morning, well it looks like I'm just as sappy as the rest of these people, but I just wanted to say hello since it is possible with the wonders of todays technology. I just wanted to ask you a question............ was the movie completely true? I don't mean to bring up old pain or anything, but it was just with the way the movie ended and then she passing away in 2005, I was like OH!! Did they ever meet? Did they ever taste each other's food? Was julia some cranky old woman suffering from old age that didn't see the beauty of what her life did for another woman's life? LOL well anyway I'm a cook too, maybe not a "french" cook, lol my latest creations were 5 boneless pork chops with blueberry juice, honey liquor, ground chives, finely chopped garlic and shallots, and a tea spoon of sea salt. Then once they were done I used the marinade with a stick of butter to make a sauce. My brother thought it was incredible. Well, if you would like to talk some more I have other stories, my finest creation when I was 7 in brazil is even more incredible if bizarre.
