Eric and I have gotten hooked on a new wine store on Jackson Avenue, Vine Wine. It's totally hip and fantastic and affordable. Dangerous, is what it is... Now if I could only find an apartment here I could both afford and not freeze to death in, all would be well....

BTW, do you know where one could find the egg wire wisk on the cover of your book? I'm seriously thinking of pairing it with your book as a composite gift for a friend...and possibly getting another for my three-year-old chocoholic chef-in-training son, who notices it on the book cover all the time. A hearty mazel tov on its publication, BTW...makes me want to grab a Long Island Ice Tea and steal the JC copy my mom has, in order to pore over it some. Stay well and warm, if possible.

susannah, I've gone through a bit of this with the promotion of a friend's fantasy/sci-fi book. A small blitz needs to be organized amongst you and other J & J admirers. Go to your local bookstores, inquire as to whether the book is available in store, order some copies right then, if needed and is not in-store; if it is in store but is not in a prominent spot, shuffle it around. (Suggested spots: next to JC or eclipsing Jeffrey Steingarten) If copies of the book are not needed right away, have you and your friends switch off and do the same thing: same bookstores, different people. Head to unenlightened bookselling sites and write rave reviews. You too have the right to promote a good book!
ReplyDeleteThe effect will undoubtedly be akin to Berke Breathed's suggestion in an old "Bloom County" cartoon. Fanning out and flushing all the toilets at the same time in, say, the Pentagon, is bound to make people take notice. Booksellers' brains need a flushing, too.
