Oh my lord. I did a truly amazing reading at Third Place Books in Seattle last night. It was not me that was amazing - I seem to be in the Rambling Stage of the writer's learning curve. It was everybody else. First of all there was Meagan (am I spelling that right?) who organized the reading and is fantabulous. Then there was the store manager, whose name I've shamefully forgotten, who made Roquefort turnovers (his roquefort, too, yearned for freedom), and potato cheese sticks and potage parmentier. And then there was the store itself, which just blows my mind. And mostly there were the people who came to see me, lots of incredibly friendly Seattle-style people, among them both Shazzer and... wait for it... the legendary Grammy! It was a very emotional meeting. She's just as inspirational in person as she was to all of us on the blog during the project. We're in negotiations to get me adopted as granddaughter.

A fine time was had by all, and I hope soon to have pictures from the event to post. In the meantime, here I am in Portland, a town I'm also loving. I'm wondering if I'm loving all these towns because I'm being driven around my totally cool professional escorts and put up in totally groovy hotels and introduced to people who are being paid to tell me I'm a genius? I wonder.....

If you have time go to books for cooks...That is, if that is not where your reading is taking place. Pastaworks next door is pretty decent...

I had a FABULOUS time at the reading last night, and enjoyed meeting Julie after 'getting to know her' in her blog.

Marvelous!

Hi Julie--I was there last night but didn't stay for the food/signing, because I was late for something. BUT, I just wanted to say that yours was the first blog I ever read...well, after that guy from my college I was kind of stalking.

Anyway, GREAT job last night!

Oh Julie - you were simply WONDERFUL last night and I was thrilled to finally get to meet you in person. Boy, do you give gooood hugs! My dumb computer has been acting up all day when I was frantically trying to blog you. Your book is SUPER - I'm on the third chapter already. Syd thought all chefs would be hefty and was very pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful young woman. He said Eric is one lucky guy. And yes, consider yourself officially adopted!! - "Your" Grammy

It was wonderful to have you visit us here in Seattle! The reading was lovely and the nosh a real treat. BTW, I managed to sneak in a snapshot of you at the podium—a bit fuzzy, no flash. Let me know if you want a copy.

Congratulations again on the book (I'm enjoying the read immensely), the great reviews and tour, Julie! Well deserved indeed!

Oh what a beautiful day it is! While reading the Food Section, I discovered your new blog and that your book is out, which I promptly purchased! I loved your Julie/Julia blog and always thoroughly enjoy your articles in the NYT. I live in San Francisco and hope to make it up to Corte Madera on the 21st. Congrats on all your success!!!

Julie, is there any chance of a revision in your Bay Area tour dates/locations again now that Keplers has re-opened?? I know it's a bit down the road for you (though just UP the road for me!)...you'll keep us posted, right?

Hi Julie,
I thought of you this weekend at the Taste of Georgetown Festival. I spotted Ris Lacoste and went right over, intending to talk with her about your book. Once I got to her tent, however, I became star struck and could barely squeak out a thanks for the endive and blue cheese salad. I think it was the "Ris" embroidered on her jacket that did me in.
Take care and enjoy the tour. Sure wish you were coming to DC!

I just have to say that the reviewers who are giving you "mixed" reviews just don't freaking get it! It's not about the food, dammit! Not just about the food. It's all about the tangets. That's how the mind of everyone under the age of 40 works. We're all "I wonder what's on the news? Wow this tastes good. Oh look it's shiny!" all in an instant!

Dried up old book critics! Grrrr.

Anyway, it's all beautiful and wonderful and I'm so happy for you to be having all this success. Enjoy every moment!
