You got it, Julie! Speaking of Texas Democrats, guess who I ran into at the new Whole Foods at 6th & Lamar the other day? ANN RICHARDS! Yep, in the flesh. Love that woman!Hoping to be at your TBF reading on Sunday.TB
Funny how things work sometimes. Got our sort of weekly copy of Entertainment Weekly a couple of weeks ago and found this full page readers spotlight on a new book from someone named Julie Powell. It sounded sort of interesting and fun, cooking being one of the things I enjoy, and how can you go wrong with "pretty, profane author".So being the techie type, I throw "Julie Powell" into Yahoo and found the original blog. And as expected was hooked. Read through the whole thing (plus comments) over the next couple of weeks (finished today actually) thinking how it would have been cool to have been there two years ago and experienced it live and been able to comment in real time and such (mentally smacked the obnoxious "J" when he reared his head a few times any way) but oh well what can you do. Listened to, read, and watched the various media items still to be found on the net. Planned on buying the book as soon as I can after the first couple of entries I read of course. I sort of wondered what the Powell's and their menagerie (oh by the way, I'm hopless without spell check) were up to now. Had the competely unreasonable slight moment of let down when I read the last regular post. Thought it might have been fun to go to one of the signings wich most certainly were long over what with the book coming out in the "spring of 2005" and this being the end of October. Read through the huge comments section from the day after Julia's death and noticed Julie had a new blog. Cool, something new! Checked out the last couple of posts and discovered SHE LEFT MY AREA HERE IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA LIKE YESTERDAY!!! lol, what can you do!A day late, etc.Well the blog was a blast and I'm sure the book will be as well as soon as I can pick it up. Looking forward to perhaps catching occasional comments again on the new "not technically a blog" Julie blog from the whole crowd I've been virtually introduced to over the last couple of weeks!Ray
Hello Julie, Just caught up with What Could Happen. I haven't been able to tune in since your book signing in L. A. That was fun, and it was a pleasure meeting you. But I feel I little cheated. Some of your other city tours sound a lot more elaborate – fancy restaurants, dinners, etc. Oh well, luck of the draw. Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself with all the traveling, speaking, and meeting new folks. And whispers of a movie deal. I'm so happy for you. Let me know if you plan another event in the Los Angeles area.Lastly, you found a way to ditch that bitter anonymous idiot – good riddance. He/she was really starting to set me teeth on edge. What a fricken wet blanket.Again, let me know if you plan another book signing in L.A. N
I would truly enjoy this book if she wasn't such a Liberal
My name is Julie and I grew up watching Julia childs on PBS, this was way back before Cable and only 4 channels to chose from. I was home alot due to medical problems so I would watch PBS alot. I know my love of baking and cooking all started with Julia Child. I wanted to be a clinary chef when I grew up but due to my limitations of standing I couldn't go for my dream, so I cook and bake for my friends and family and I love it. My sister who I have not spoken to for over a year decided to call me one day and leave a message on my answrring machine about this Book she wanted to give me. I totally freaked when I heard her voice and thought right away she wanted to give me some self help book about my bad attitude, she's a real religious fanatic..or I think she is not sure anymore. Anyway, I went to my mom's last week and she handed me this book called Julie/Julia. I'm on the fith or 6th chapter now and I love this book. I only have one complaint so far. I'm a Republican and she's obvioulsy a Democrat. This sux big time for me since I trust my President in that he's doing the right thing. So I just skim past the parts of the book where she gets all Liberal. I'll have to remember to thank my sister one day for giving me this book. Hey, maybe I too can write a book about how Julia child inspired me.. except I'd be a Disabled Housewife Republican with a bad attitude who never reached her dream of going to Clinary school and who at just 39 years old is on Lipitor. Naaaa, doesn't sound like good reading.
may be a wet blanket, but know how to enter comment without fricking entering it twice....yea uh, "an avid fan" is really out of the bag, now everybody knows who you are....BTW, nobody ditched me, sounds like you are just about dead for attention, "set me teeth on edge" what a farce you are....man you are a flake if one ever happened....hey AAF, I think it may be safe to say that JP probably has more of a mutual respect for this "wet blanket" than she does for all you spineless, let me get on your coat-tail identiless freaks, go buy yourself a life
BTW "julie4evert" you are not only a republican, you are also someone who can't hit the goddamn "u" key....what a loser you are....MS "BA"....such a repub that you can't even read the views of someone in a book for crying out load....sounds to me that you might be part of that forbidden cultism that the repubs put on display....you know "here is who we are, uh, oh not really, we just got to keep folks thinking that we are such good "CHRISTIANS"....I bet that old GWB is just dieing to stick a Cuban cigar up something in the Oval office himself....go get you a life, or maybe you are happy just sitting around condemning your own sister for what I just saw got typed by your very own hand, only difference is you are in a blind worship of GWB...who told you how to spell republican cause you sure as hell don't know how to act on the principals that the republican party was formed of?
Okay, okay, chill out everybody.... Not so all about insulting people around here. Except for our insane idiot of a president. (Sorry, julie4evert....)
Hi Julie, Just wanted to say that I really loved your book. I did not know about your blog or really much about blogging until I read your book. Very fun and also insightful. It even made me, a person who can't cook at all, want to start making stuff. Good luck to you! Cheryl Z.
Well that really stunk, not only did I get picked on for my grammar(sheesh probably spelled that wrong too) I got slammed for being a Republican. Oh well. Damn, wish I could just stop reading this book now that the Author has slammed him too(sorry Julie P.)..but I will rise above it and read on. I love cooking, Julia Child and Reading. Damnit!
END THE SUSPENSE! for all of us democrats new to the project and not from texas, what happened?(just bought and read the book...bravo! will recommend to all of my friends, saw that it is in the top #300 on amazon, i hope you're raking it in!)
