Oh, I remember.

In LA, everyone waits for the crosswalk signs to change. I'd heard about this, but it's the first time I've witnessed it. It's so cute.

Also, people are unnervingly nice.

Also, the W hotel charges $40 for pork tacos.

That is all.

$$$$40 for pork tacos???? For one plate of pork tacos??? Unbelievable!

And, having honed my pedestrian skills in Boston (no New York, I know, but same school of taxi drivers!) I vividly remember my shock, right after we moved here, at single-handedly causing a near multi-car pile up in San Francisco one time when I (gasp!) stepped off the sidewalk to lean over the bumper of a car before darting across the street. They stop for pedestrians? Who knew??!

Have a great time with this gig, Julie. My one regret is that by the time you make it back to anyplace even remotely within reasonable range of my neck of the woods, the glow will long since have worn off and you'll be on the verge, if not completely over the edge, of sheer exhaustion.

Julie, it was so nice to see and hear you tonight at Vromans. And so refreshing to hear someone say they loved LA--I think you're the first ever. I'm going to e-mail Grammy (AKA Laverne "Lovey" Smith) about your signing tomorrow night in Seattle. I can't wait to read your book. Carol

As a lurker of the blog, it was nice to be a part of your first reading tonight. Thought the book was great, enjoyed reading about how the project affected your life. Looking forward to more good things to come.

I am looking for my memories through the stories, the narrative of people. I feel it is difficult but I will try.
