Should be able to come up with something funny to say about Natick...

...but no. Forgive me, I'm a little fried.

So the event at Natick, MA was a dinner, recipes from MtAoFC at Maxwell's 148. Beet and Potato Salad, Gnocchi with Cheese, Swordfish Provencale, and Apple Upside Down Cake. It was all quite lovely - a small event, so I got to talk to everybody, which is nice.

I have to say I was sort of dreading it. Natick is a real strip mall sort of place. Actual suburbia, which I realize I haven't spent much time in. But the restaurant was beautiful, and the people who coughed up the $75 to attend were very enthusiastic and fun. A book group of about 8, a quartet of women friends plus another trio, and two couples - a younger one who had reason to sympathize with my stupid Syndrome Worries, and a slightly older one who seemed to enjoy me even though - as they let me know in the comments today - they're actually sympathetic to the conservative cause. Hear hear to open thinking! Even when I can't do it!

I am not really very interested in falling into political chatter, but I would like to just say - I have no problem with conservatives, or even - despite my upbringing - with Jesus lovers. I hate evil people. Not all Republicans are evil, but in my experience, most evil people are Republican. Including, unfortunately, most of the people running the country.

That's my incredibly deep and insightful political commentary for the day. Feel free to appropriate as needed.

The only thing funny about Natick is... it sounds the way it's spelled. Not true in our other 'burbs round Boston.

I was at the event, found the whole evening very charming, can't wait to read the book, keep thinking about roasting beets, and appreciated your wit and honesty.

There were only 2 couples there, so your odds were pretty good at guessing which one we were, but I need to set the record straight. We were the younger couple ;-)

Thanks again for coming up to Massachusetts.

Okay, so I know you must get alot of comments from people you don't necessarily care about. I also realize you probably don't get the chance to read all the comments people post to you. But.. I have to say that I absolutely adore "Julie & Julia". I can't read it in public because I laugh so hard I look like I should be in a straight jacket.

I am a 20 year old college student and I'm having to learn to cook for myself. It sucks. I struggle with cooking. Actually struggle is an understatement. I come from a long line of southern women who are amazing cooks and I simply cannot live up to the legacy. I burn things until they're mutilated beyond recognition.

I'm almost done with the book and extremely sad about it, I'm savoring every last bit of it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Yay! Girl crush!!!

Oh, and BTW, that comment that was supposedly deleted by the author? I didn't delete it. I don't even know what it said.... Perhaps my husband broke in to delete it, to protect me? Who knows.....

I grew up near Natick- it's where we would go to the mall...
Just finished Julie & Julia. (And loved it!) While I'm not officially working on a Project, my husband has been known to whine "Can't we just have normal food?" about once a week. So he's my guinea pig? He could probably relate to Eric.
Will you be having any events in NYC soon?

I just found this blog after seeing the movie this past Friday. I agree about Natick. I moved here two years ago from the South for my husband's job, and we now live out in Hudson while he works in Natick. It is definitely a strip mall... A big one.
