I loved your idea of the Julie/Julia project!! The movie that they made of you was great! I can't believe that writing a blog can get a person published! That's amazing!

Your story inspired me to start a blog of my own.
It's zee28.wordpress.com

I just started it and so far don't have very many great ideas, but it'll be a journey I hope. Please check it out!

Best of luck to you with your writing and travels!!

I have two questions for you:
1.How did you cook through "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Did you have a month set aside at the end for desserts, or did you mark the recipes off as you went and skip around?
2. Are you going to cook through "Mastering the Art of French Cooking: Volume 2"
Thanks,

Love comes and goes in our lives. Deep pains, lofty joys come with it. Please, I do not mean to sound pompous - how lucky you are to have earned these tears.

Wow. Soiled and Whore should not go in the same sentence. Just saw the movie. Very cute. Pissed me off your character didn't get to meet the Lady. Reminds me of playing bluegrass, singing high lonesome and never meeting my absent mentor John Duffey.

If you can make (if you haven't already) it to Junior's on Flatbush, they have a friggin burger to die for. Fresh chopped beef glued together and broiled to rare perfection. Place used to be a cater/confectioner (and still mostly is).

I wish I could have joined you. I just finished your J&J and Ruth Reichl's book Garlic and Sapphires. Loved both and I was wondering if you knew her or have read all her books? I have one left of hers (the recent one). Although you two have different styles there was definitely a similiarity that I noticed...your raw description of life and passion fo food to put simply. You may be the next Ruth Reichl. Follow your passion and the rest will follow...

Hi, if Julie is really reading this I would LOVE, an opportunity to interview her personally on how Julia Child has changed the way you cook. I am guessing you get asked about Julia a lot, and are probably really annoyed to answer another, but if you could possibly blog about it, I would appreciate it so much. The project is an eight page essay and would be honored if I could have you as one of my interviews.
Thank You.

Hello Julie, I do apologise I know it has nothing to do with this great "Woodstock Writer's Festival"...anyway, I hope you did enjoy it! Just starting my blog here and don’t know how it all works and where to write this to you... I saw the movie “Julie and Julia” – I’m totally under its spell now. I'm trying to get your book as well as Julia Child's one and also the cook book of hers! I'm mad about the whole thing; my mind is running in circles – wildly with all my old passions, all my dreams which never came true… A while ago I fell in love with baking and then I saw that movie and I finally felt relieved! Why? You inspired me. It’s like I’d been waiting for it! Like I should take my old dreams and brush them off and find them once again all bright and colourful…Thank you!

I just read about the loss of your pet and am feeling very sad. I had to put my Yorkie down a few years ago and now have a 2-year old Shih Tzu named Buffy. She is the joy of my life -- along with my husband, of course! I have seen the Julie & Julia movie twice and just received Volumes I and II of Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I can tell you that it was truly overwhelming reviewing all those recipes. My husband said he wants a new dish every day. Well, that's not gonna happen since I am a 53-year old working gal and won't be retiring until Sep 2011. Well, I didn't mean to go on and on, but I just wanted you to know how much I admire you and what you have accomplished! Take care!

Dear Julie,
I just finished watching your movie with a good friend. You're an amazing person. I saw my life mirrored in your depiction, and you've given me strength.

After being a successful attorney for five years, you can imagine my shock after being among the millions to have lost their job, and at the same time having to move from the Northeast to the Midwest because of my husband's career. 32 years old, I've had to redefine who I am and what it is that I really want to do in the future.

I have written a novel that I want to publish but have left it in my black binder for years because I was lacking the encouragement and drive to continue working on it and making it to a publisher.

Seeing you is making me believe and push forward with a plan I made years ago. Unfortunately, I've gotten some discouraging advice about "publishing" and what a bad bad world it is out there...

I know now that whenever I get down, I will go to your blog to get inspiration. Your success is success for all of us out there who have hope that one day our hard work will pay off.

Thanks again and best of luck and much success to you in the future!

I wish you luck and I send thanks to you and your husband for sticking with it all.

Oh I so hope you read this, Julie. First of all your blog, cooking your way through Julia's cookbook and the subsequent movie completely inspired me. I don't mean inspired on the inside and tiny tear welled up in my eye. I mean I actually decided to do my own year long project. It's called A to Z with Meryl and Me. I chose 26 films of Meryl Streep and will perform 26 scenes from them. Every other week, I show these to the free world via every social network known to me. What is so ironic is the first one that was already shot and shown is from the movie, Adaptation and the character I played is Susan Orlean!

I'm not one to believe in coincidence so please let me know you saw this. I wrote to Susan and she replied, which blew my mind. Now I hope you do the same. I have so much to tell you. Oh and if you want to see my blog, it's nancytelzerow.blogspot.com and to see the video it's youtube.com/nancytelzerow

Actually, I passed your book around and the whole family read it!

I haven't read your second book yet, but I am planning on taking a chunk out of my next paycheck from my terribly lowpaying job to buy it.

Because I am such a huge fan, I'm wondering if you'll be coming down to Canada soon for any conferences or book readings or signings or whatever you do. I would love to meet you!(I'm a large autograph fan when I look up to someone).

Thanks for being different and making a difference.

I stayed up until 4am last night finishing Cleaving - makes me look forward to whatever you write next. I'm a bit disappointed that "D" wasn't "D.S." (just kidding).

I found your book to be extremely compelling and I seriously admire your honesty. (A note re: therapy - can be v. useful for learning how to fight productively, but that's may all be water under the bridge ny now.) I also just love how your fab dad defused your stress at Xmas with a noogie and loving "Oh Jules, you're so crazy". Some people have a gift for taking the tension out of a situation.

Plus the gang at Fleishers sounds like the Platonic ideal of what a butcher shop should be. Very cool trip to Ukraine too.

I love meat. I've tried not to love it so much - I even have taken the odd stab at being a veg, but truth is I'd waste away without it because I just can't manage to consume sufficient amounts of anything else.

Years ago my brother had a crush on a butcher chick at an organic market. Something about her self assurance combined with the blood-covered apron seemed very cool to him.

Hi Julie!
I've been trying to find a way to reach you and I've been hitting a lot of brick(cyber)walls. Your blogger Jellidonut helped me (Thanks Jelli)! I'm NOT a proficient blogger! Operation Ooh-Rah for Tah-Tahs really needs your help! The full story of how Operation Ooh-Rah for Tahs-Tahs began can be found on the Official Marine Website - marines.mil. Just type in ooh rah in the search box then click on Operation Ooh-Rah for Tah-Tahs debuts...

It's a story about a young Marine who wanted to show support for his mom (me) back in Texas who was celebrating her 6th anniversary of being a Breast Cancer Survivor. I know you get hundreds of comments posted to your blog, but maybe just maybe I will get lucky!...

I'm working on a cookbook to help say Happy Mother's Day to Marine Moms around the world and we need recipes from Marine Moms, Wives and Dads (and you, if that's possible). The cookbook will help raise Breast Cancer Awareness and help the brave young men and women who fight for our freedom each and every day. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and The Wounded Warrior Regiment.

When I watched your movie, I cried at the end (I think my husband thought I was crazy :)). I could totally relate to your frustration and your passion to write. I was so happy for you when your dream came true! It has been my dream since I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer to help women who have or will face this horrific disease. Now that my son has become a Marine I've expanded my dream. I want/need to make a difference. And I won't give up until I do! Thanks for inspiring me to never give up!!

P.S. My heart goes out to you over your loss of Robert. I recently had to put down my Great Dane, Shakespeare of 10.5 years. I think there will always be a void, but he filled my life with unconditional love and for that I will always be grateful.

But Julie. The loss of Robert, your big bear, DOES rank up there with King Lear. Higher.

Anyway, King Lear was about people and their dupliciousness. I have more faith in small animals.

Dear Julie: I was very sorry to hear of the death of your beloved pet. I have two 12 year old dogs - husky, and a yellow lab, as well as a 3 year old pug, and I love them dearly, so I know how painful it was for you to lose Robert.
I just finished listening to your excellent book, Cleaving, with you reading it, as well as the interview at the end. It was very painful for me to hear your story at the beginning (although I loved the butcher info and recipes!). My own daughter is doing the exact same thing, to her husband she has known since 17 years of age. 21 years together now. 3 beautiful little daughters (13, 10, 8). She has been so dissatisfied with her husband's lack of attention, interest, for the last few years, and when she met this motivational speaker in November, to "Choose the life you want", she chose HIM! She managed weekends away with him, and wrote profuse emails, proclaiming her love, connection, etc. Of course her husband found these emails, the same way Eric found yours. The situation is pretty terrible in their house, but they are not telling the children yet. I can only hope that in time, as you did, the marriage can be salvaged. It is horrible for my husband and me however, and it is hard for us to ever think about welcoming her back into the family situation. She seems to have turned her back on everyone and seems quite upbeat about what she is doing. Her husband still professes to love her, and cries, has lost 17 pounds in the last month, is on all kinds of anti anxiety pills, whisky. It is a mess. We are supporting him above all else. Anyway, THANK YOU for writing your difficult story - it gave me a better perspective on the situation, and will help me come to terms with her behaviour. I am looking forward to your next book
Sincerely, Christine

Hi Julie, I just bought your book, after 3 times watching the movie Julie&Julia. I loved it! it gave me back the energy to cook new meals. I am a mother of 4 kids, all boys + a boyfriend. I need new ideas to cook and the movie (and probably also the book) helped a lot! thank you for this! Loulou from Quebec, Canada

I hope the festival went well!
The Julie/Julia project has kept you busy it seems :)
I did send a book over via your publicist to sign for my sister who (like you) loves to cook, but is in a similar situation job wise. I thought it would be inspiring. I was hoping to get it signed for Christmas... Maybe for April?
I would really appreciate it.
Thanks so much! Good luck with your new book endeavors~Take care :)

I collect memoirs (mostly food and crazy). I attended your reading at the festival-wish I had gone to the whole seminar. I was in a vile/depressed/winter mood. I already had a copy of Julie and Julia so I got that signed-I didn't buy a copy of Cleaving but have since borrowed one and I'm sorry I didn't buy a copy to get signed. I wasn't a fan before but I am now. I'm almost finished-its a very satisfying read. I'm enjoying your voice-so thanks. About 18 years ago we raised 5 pigs and then butchered them in our back yard. We had no clue.

Hi Julie, this is a bit off-topic, but I just came from seeing Julie/Julia, and I just want to say i absolutely loved your story! It was so inspiring, really, esp as I am teetering on the edge of my twenty-something life. One day I hope for the courage to be brazen enough to turn things around for myself. God bless you and Bon Appetit!

Hi there Julie,

First of all very sorry to hear about your dog passing away. =( I have just watched Julie & Julia the movie they made about you!!

What a fabulous idea, the whole cooking your way through a book that is. You have inspired me to cook more often. No more excuses. And I might just write a blog! Not making any promises.

Hope you are happy and well. =)

All the best, Bec

Just saw the movie!!!! It was absolutely fantastic! I love to cook. Moved to Canada from Switzerland after growing up with the French and Italian cuisine... I miss the finesse here so much. Especially when I'd like to go out and spoil myself... Just doesn't happen. I have to do it myself or I don't get it... Your movie was truly inspiring!!!

Here is a totally and completely out-of-date comment, but heck, I only just now discovered this blog.

When you were on Martha Stewart's show, she breezily claimed that she had also cooked every single recipe in Mastering. Which, sorry, I just can NOT believe! What did you think when she said that?

I thought she was very rude throughout that appearance. Sadly, I wasn't surprised.

I just saw the movie. I am going to get the book. Only wish I had found your blog when you were writing it. Now I feel like one of "those" fans. LOL So I'm going to do this backwards. Found the movie, will read the book, then probably get the cookbook and maybe learn to cook a few things. Thank you Julie :) Love your style. Also, a huge congrats on the success you've achieved! Way to go.

Julie, you're one brave cookie. It takes a lot of insight and self-awareness to write as honestly and openly as you did in Cleaving, which I've just finished reading. Writing that book took a lot of heart and a lot of guts (there's a pun in there somewhere, isn't there?) and I'm glad you did. Well done.

Take Care,
